Eye Opening Experience

Working in Johor Bahru has been an incredibly eye-opening experience for me. Although time seemed to pass swiftly, I relished every moment of the journey, embracing both the highs and lows. Over the course of 10 months and 5 days, I encountered a diverse array of individuals who imparted valuable lessons.

In contrast to some of my friends who had the opportunity for formal education, I fund myself immersed in the hustle, constantly reminding myself of my intrinsic worth. Despite facing skepticism about the alignment of my education and position, I've reached a point where I no longer dwell on such concerns.

The entirety of my Johor Bahru adventure constitutes a treasure trove of bittersweet memories that I will forever cherish. Each happy and sad moment has contributed to shaping the person I am today. One significant milestone involved overcoming my fears, notably conquering unfamiliar roads through a memorable road trip. I feel blessed to have encountered people whose influence has been instrumental in my personal growth—Alhamdulillah.

In the waning days of my stay in Johor, a defining chapter unfolded through a memorable road trip. Dr. Nik, a generous dentist at my workplace, played a pivotal role by graciously lending us his car. This act of kindness not only symbolized the warmth of unexpected connections but also opened the door to an exhilarating adventure. With Dr. Nik's borrowed vehicle as our chariot, we embarked on a journey to Kulai, a destination merely 45 minutes away from our residence. The road stretched before us, weaving through landscapes that mirrored the diverse tapestry of my Johor experience. As the wheels turned, the clock ticking down on my time in Johor, every mile became a poignant reminder of the fleeting nature of this chapter. The road trip to Kulai wasn't just a physical excursion; it was a metaphorical exploration of the twists and turns that life presents.Kulai, with its vibrant town and local charm, welcomed us as temporary wanderers seeking new experiences. The borrowed car became more than a mode of transportation; it became a vessel for creating lasting memories in my final week in Johor.

This experience was more than just a physical journey; it became a metaphor for opening my eyes to the richness of life beyond the familiar. The generosity extended to us during the road trip revealed the kindness present in unexpected places, prompting me to view the world with newfound appreciation. The roads of Kulai, uncharted and unfamiliar, mirrored the uncertainties and challenges in my personal and professional life. Navigating those roads became a symbolic act of facing fears and embracing the unknown. Each turn represented a lesson, and every mile traveled contributed to my broader understanding of resilience and adaptability.

The eye-opening nature of the road trip was not limited to the physical landscape but extended to the diverse experiences and people encountered. From the vibrant town of Kulai to the challenges faced at work, each moment became a revelation, shaping my perception of the world around me.

As my Johor Bahru story unfolds, the theme of "eye opening" remains a guiding force. It propels me forward, encouraging a continual exploration of the unfamiliar, a readiness to learn from every experience, and an openness to the transformative power of the unexpected. Each chapter in my narrative is an opportunity to broaden my perspective, making my journey not just a physical passage but a continuous process of self-discovery and enlightenment.

Throughout my stay in Johor, a poignant aspect was the absence of visits to my family. Not even the celebration of Eid or my aunt's wedding could lure me back home. It was a sacrifice, a choice made in pursuit of the experiences and growth that Johor offered.Homesickness, a silent companion in my journey, found its antidote in the warm camaraderie of friends and colleagues. Their presence became a comforting refuge, turning mundane moments into shared joys and transforming the unfamiliar into a makeshift home.

While physical distance kept me from family gatherings, the bonds formed in Johor became a surrogate family. Celebrating festivals with colleagues and creating new traditions helped bridge the emotional gap that miles couldn't. Eid, usually a time of family reunions, became a celebration of friendship and unity. The missed moments, like my aunt's wedding, were poignant reminders of the sacrifices made for personal and professional growth. Yet, the support and companionship of those around me became a source of strength, proving that family extends beyond blood relations.

In the heart of Johor, I discovered that home is not just a place; it's the people who make you feel cherished and understood. The journey was a testament to the resilience forged through homesickness, turning a temporary stay into a tapestry woven with the threads of newfound connections.

I'm deeply grateful for the enriching experiences and the kindness of those who made my Johor journey unforgettable. Thank you all for being part of this meaningful chapter in my life.

My Liberty - Notes

On October 7, 2021, I made the difficult decision to quit my first job due to toxic treatment and discrimination. Despite enjoying the work, I couldn't tolerate the mistreatment. Grateful for Allah blessing me with a loving and understanding family, I shared my struggles with them, deciding that enough was enough. That day, before noon, with my mother, I submitted my resignation, uncertain if I should be proud or regretful. Looking back, I question if I'm proud or regretful, acknowledging the complexity of decisions. In January 2022, seeking change, I applied for a job in Johor Bahru, aiming to contribute to my family and step out of my comfort zone. Before leaving, I celebrated my 22nd birthday with cherished friends and family, making lasting memories in Sandakan. My friends played a crucial role in making my 22nd birthday truly memorable. Florencie Ansalmus drove to my home, presenting me with a thoughtful gift – a set of McDonald's meals. Additionally, Dg. Sufiani binti...

Decisions Dilemmas

I find it impressive and somewhat envy-inducing to witness individuals who can confidently navigate their choices. Now, let's delve into discussing the complexities of decision dilemma. I grew up in a messy household. Don't get me wrong, by messy, I mean chaotic, as my parents never set or expected anything from us. While they encouraged freedom of options, advice was limited to 'just study.' The absence of clear guidance left me navigating life's choices without a defined target, fostering a unique perspective on decision dilemmas. Moreover, my siblings and I had to navigate a significant phase, or a downfall, alongside our parents. My dad struggled with drug addiction, and as he embarked on his healing journey, we relocated to live with our grandparents—a living arrangement that continues to this day. Throughout my teenage years, my grandparents served as parental figures. They broadened our options and taught us the importance of making informed choices. Initially,...

Ep. 1: What's in Mai's head?

As I navigate through life, I am constantly torn between these two desires - the desire for independence and the longing for close connections. It's a delicate balance strike, one that often leaves me grappling with conflicting emotions. Yet, amidst this internal struggle, I find solace in the moments spent with those I cherish. Their presence reminds me of the importance of human connections and the warmth they bring to my life. Despite the challenges and uncertainties that lie ahead, I am determined to carve out a path that honors both my need for freedom and my deep-rooted bonds with my loved ones. It's a journey of self-discovery and growth, one that I embrace wholeheartedly. In the end, it is these experiences that shape us, molding us into the individuals we are meant to become. I am looking forward to the productive version of myself, where I can continue pursuing my degree and chasing my dreams while striving for financial independence. I eagerly anticipate the emergenc...
